NT-ProBNP ( Measure of Heart Function ) Test in Cambridge

The NT-proBNP test measures N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide, a substance released by heart muscle cells when the heart is under pressure or strain. Rising levels indicate that the heart is working harder than normal, making this test one of the most effective screening tools for heart failure and cardiac stress. A simple finger-prick blood sample is all that is needed, with no fasting required.

Who Should Get Tested?

Heart failure affects over one million people in the UK, with 200,000 new diagnoses every year. Many cases go undetected until symptoms become severe. You should consider an NT-proBNP test if you experience persistent shortness of breath during activity or at rest, swelling in the legs, feet or abdomen, unexplained fatigue or weakness, a persistent cough (especially at night), or a rapid or irregular heartbeat.
