CRP - Inflammation
The CRP test measures C-reactive protein, a substance produced by your liver that rises sharply when there is inflammation or infection in your body. CRP levels can increase within hours of an inflammatory event, making it one of the fastest and most reliable markers for detecting hidden inflammation, infections, and chronic disease activity. A simple finger-prick sample is all that is needed.
Who Should Get Tested?
Inflammation is behind many health problems, from bacterial infections to autoimmune conditions and heart disease. You should consider a CRP test if you experience unexplained fever or chills, persistent fatigue, rapid heart rate, nausea, joint pain or swelling, or digestive symptoms such as abdominal pain and diarrhoea. CRP testing is also valuable for monitoring conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis, and for tracking response to treatment.
Understanding Your Results
| CRP Level | Status |
|---|---|
| Below 5 mg/L | Normal no significant inflammation detected. |
| 5 to 100 mg/L | Raised suggests moderate inflammation. May indicate infection, autoimmune flare, or chronic condition. Further investigation recommended. |
| Above 100 mg/L | Very High indicates significant inflammation, often due to serious bacterial infection or acute flare of a chronic condition. Urgent medical review advised. |
