D-Dimer Test in Cambridge

<p style="text-align: left;">The <strong>D-dimer test</strong> is a rapid blood test primarily used to rule out the presence of an active, inappropriate blood clot (thrombus) in conditions like deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE). When a blood vessel is injured, the body forms a fibrin mesh to stop bleeding, and as that clot naturally breaks down, it releases specific protein fragments called D-dimer into the bloodstream. Because D-dimer levels elevate significantly during active clot formation and degradation, a <strong>negative</strong> result is highly clinically useful for safely ruling out thromboembolic events in low-to-moderate risk patients. </p>
